Vikings Lose First Away Game to Lynn English

The Winthrop Vikings lost their first away game, and second game, of the season to the Lynn English Bulldogs, 21-33, Friday night, September 18th, at the Manning Bowl. Winthrop's Nick McCarthy had a spectacular 83-yard touchdown run called back on a penalty and English turned it around to score on its next possession, a three-play series capped by English quarterback MacDonald's 21-yard touchdown pass to Berry-Rogers.

"Winthrop played a gutsy game," English coach Peter Holey said. "They came back. We could never relax."

Winthrop is now 1-1 for the 2009 football season.
