Winthrop Resident Redploying to Afghanistan

This information is courtesy of Richard Honan.

From Winthrop resident Lisa Larity, who has been deployed to Germany the past six months or so. She has been flying back and forth to Afghanistan and Iraq as a Flight Nurse, accompanying wounded American military personnel on their journey back to the United States. Now, after a short break stateside, she will be heading back to Afghanistan in April for a four or five month deployment.
Keep Lisa and her fellow soldiers in your prayers!

Hey everyone,

So, I thought that I would update everyone on my travels. Sorry I haven't kept up as much this deployment. It got really busy out here. I am happy to say that I am flying out tomorrow and will be back in NC tomorrow night. It has been a great rotation and my crew & I moved upwards of about 500 patients out of the combat zone in our 4 months here. As excited as I am to get back, I will not be getting much time off. I unfortunately will not be able to make it up to Boston around New Years like I had planned on. Instead, the military had other plans for me! I will be going to Squadron Officer School, which is a 5 week school for captains in the Air Force. I will be there the first week of January. It is a huge deal as a nurse to get to go to this course in-residence, so it is a good thing for me. I just wish I could get home. I am going to try to get up North sometime in February or March.

And, to break even more news, it is looking like I am headed to Afghanistan again in April for another deployment of 4-5 months. I will get more definite information once I get back and check into work on Monday morning. The troop surge in Afghanistan is the reason for this next deployment. The focus has officially switched from Iraq to Afghanistan. I just ask that you keep me and many of my dear friends in your thoughts and prayers in the next year. We will all be over there. Please keep the support going and the wonderful words that you always send to make the day better. Sorry to drop all of this right before the holidays, but just know that I am safe and made it through another successful deployment. That is all I could hope and pray for. I have a great family and group of friends that keep me going through all of this, and I thank all of you for beign a part of that. I will let you know when I can make it back home. I would love to see everyone. I hope that you and your families have a very Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year. Love and miss all of you!

Love, Lisa
