Town Council Votes to Acquire Front-End Loader

Front-end loader

The Winthrop Town Council voted unanimously to acquire a front-end loader for the DPW. The council will enter a five year lease/purchase agreement.

DPW Director David Hickey recommended the purchase of the front-end loader. One of the department's two trucks is out of operation and in need of $30,000 in repairs. Their second front-end loader is from 1989.

The front-end loader can move dirt, sand, and most anything of significant weight, including manhole covers.

The arrangement will let Winthrop get credit for a trade-in vehicle and not require an immediate expenditure in the first year of the lease/purchase agreement. The loader will come in especially handy in the winter months for snow removal.
