A COASTAL FLOOD WARNING REMAINS IN EFFECT FROM 8 AM TO 6 PM EDT
SUNDAY.
THE WARNING IS FOR POCKETS OF MODERATE COASTAL FLOODING PRIMARILY
ALONG THE EAST FACING OCEAN EXPOSURES OF THE CAPE AND ISLANDS
NORTHWARD TO SCITUATE...HULL..WINTHROP...REVERE...MARBLEHEAD...
VULNERABLE COMMUNITIES ON OUTER CAPE ANN PROBABLY ON UP TO PLUM
ISLAND AND NEWBURYPORT.
THERE IS A GREATER RISK OF MODERATE COASTAL FLOODING WITHIN
2 HOURS OF THE MIDDAY SUNDAY HIGH TIDE THAN EXISTED FOR
YESTERDAY. THIS SHOULD INVOLVE MANY BRIEF ROAD CLOSURES AND
POSSIBLY ISOLATED STRUCTURAL DAMAGE.
A SURGE OF 1.5 TO 2 FEET IS FORECAST WITH AN ALREADY
ASTRONOMICALLY INCREASING TIDE CYCLE AROUND NOON SUNDAY. THE MID
AFTERNOON SURGE TODAY WAS STILL AROUND 1 FOOT DESPITE THE STORM
ONLY IN ITS FORMATIVE STAGES EAST OF THE VIRGINIA CAPES.
AT A MINIMUM...EXTENSIVE MINOR COASTAL FLOODING IS EXPECTED
AROUND THE TIMES OF HIGH TIDE SUNDAY...WITH A HIGH PROBABILITY
FOR POCKETS OF MODERATE COASTAL FLOODING. THIS FLOODING IN PART
WILL BE AIDED BY THE FORECAST RAIN SWEPT SEAS OF 12 TO 18 FEET
DRIVEN ASHORE BY NORTH TO NORTHEAST WINDS GUSTS RANGING BETWEEN
35 AND 45 MPH. GUSTS MAY TOP OUT NEAR 55 MPH ON THE CAPE AND
ISLANDS.
THERE HAS BEEN A REPORT OF CONSIDERABLE BEACH EROSION THE PAST
DAY OR SO AND SUBSTANTIAL EROSION IS LIKELY TO CONTINUE THROUGH
MONDAY MORNING. THIS EROSION COULD RESULT IN ISOLATED STRUCTURAL
DAMAGE WHERE ALREADY KNOWN TO BE IN JEOPARDY.
MINOR COASTAL FLOODING IS ANTICIPATED DURING THE SUNDAY NIGHT
HIGH TIDE CYCLE WITH STILL VERY HIGH SEAS BUT PROBABLY A LITTLE
LESS WIND WHICH SHOULD TURN NORTHERLY DURING THE NIGHT.
PLEASE FOLLOW THE ADVICE OF LOCAL OFFICIAL SUNDAY AND BE PREPARED
FOR POSSIBLE ROAD CLOSURES AT THE TYPICALLY VULNERABLE LOCATIONS.
ALL TIDE HEIGHTS ARE RELATIVE TO MEAN LOWER LOW WATER.
TIME OF HIGH TOTAL TIDES ARE APPROXIMATE TO THE NEAREST HOUR.
