The Birds on Our Beach

Piping Plover Least Tern

The Friends of Belle Isle Marsh will sponsor a Forum, "The Birds on Our Beach", Monday, September 21, at 7 p.m. at the Winthrop Senior Center. It is free of charge and open to the public. Heather Warchalowski, the Department of Conservation and Recreation’s coastal ecologist, will discuss the shorebirds that were seen on our local beaches this past summer. Her presentation will include information on the Piping Plover and the Least Tern, two endangered species that have nested on our beaches. She will also help us learn about shorebirds that can be seen here throughout the summer, where they spend the winter, and what we can do to help protect them. This event is funded by a grant from Save the Harbor/Save the Bay.
